Pot, kettle, black, considering you cheat on your wife, but you don't want other men's attention on you, even though Betty doesn't do anything to entice it? Sorry for the rant.

Once again, rants are more than encouraged here at Betty Draper Looking Pissed, so no apology necessary!

I think that Don got mad at Betty because that was the mentality men had back then, men had total control over their wives. Betty thought buying that yellow bikini was totally harmless, (which it is) but what Don thought was, “OH MY GOD MY WIFE IS EXPOSING HER NAVEL WHAT A PARTY GIRL I CAN’T LET THIS HAPPEN PEOPLE WILL THINK SHE IS EASY, WOW!”

It is just totally unacceptable for Betty to wear a bikini to a pool, but meanwhile Don can cheat on Betty until he has third-degree burns on his penis. This hypocrisy comes from the sexist mentality of the 60’s; men could do whatever they wanted, and women had to either ignore their husband’s terrible behavior and put up with their mistreatment, or get a divorce and end up like Helen Bishop. And we all know no one wants to end up like Helen Bishop.

I really felt for Betty in that scene, all she wanted was a fun day at the pool and Don had to spoil it. Shame.
